Pelvic Floor & Core Support

We can help you rehabilitate your pelvic floor!

The muscle groups within the core and pelvic region can be weakened by childbirth, surgery, genetics, heavy lifting, rapid weight gain, constipation, improper breathing mechanics and more. These muscle groups aid in supporting the uterus, bladder and bowels. They form a slinglike frouping from the pubic bone to the front of the tailbone at the back.

Damaged or weakened pelvic floor…

Can affect bladder and bowel control, leading to urinary and rectal incontinence or even pelvic organ prolapse.

Treatment is always performed externally by specific techniques:

  • Breathing mechanics

  • Therapeutic exercise & core building

  • Pelvic muscle relaxation exercises

  • Pelvic floor realignment

  • Post-delivery therapy (for vaginal and c-section births)

  • Proper posture

  • Symptoms treatment

  • Physical education

The core is made up of four muscle grups

  1. Rectus abdominis: Located at the front of the abdomen, this muscle is commonly known as the “six-pack” muscle

  2. Obliques: These muscles are located on the sides of the abdomen and help with twisting and side bending movements

  3. Transverse abdominis: This deep abdominal muscle wraps around the torso and acts like a corset, providing stability and support to the spine and pelvis

  4. Erector spinae: These muscles run along the spine and help with maintaining posture and spinal stability

The pelvic floor muscles and diaphragm also play crucial roles in core stability…

Hayley always says “weak Core = weak floor”

You can attend Hayley’s 1:1 sessions and classes even if you haven’t been pregnant!

You may have experienced weakening of the pelvic floor and core through your daily activities or life events. Organ prolapse happens in over 50% of people and 1 in 4 people will not even know they do.

Also, many women suffer from having a hypertonic pelvic floor, which can cause pelvic health concerns such as constipation, painful sex, urgency nad pelvic pain.

.

How can you help during pregnancy?

Pregnancy places significant strain on the core and pelvic floor muscles due to the weight of the growing uterus and hormonal changes. This can lead to issues like diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles), pelvic girdle pain, and pelvic organ prolapse. Strengthening exercises, proper posture, and pelvic floor therapy can help mitigate these effects.

During sessions or classes we will focus on:

  • Breathing techniques

  • Optimal birthing positions

  • Strengthening the core and floor

  • Releasing the pelvic floor to be ready to push

  • How to stay active during pregnancy

  • Posture and pressure points
